CREATING DIGITAL COMMUNITIES
Backrs creates digital communities around individual young people. These communities affirm youth and give caring adults a rewarding new way to share their gifts, resources, and networks.
FLOURISH FUNDS
Flourish Funds are created for eligible students in good standing to invest in achieving their aspirations (e.g., academics, health, vocation) as well as everyday costs like transportation.
OFFERING SUPPORT TO COMMUNITIES
Flourish Funds complement other support provided by the Backrs community to proteges including advice, programming, and in-kind resources contributed by institutions (e.g., employers).
BACKRS WORKS WITH GREAT PARTNERS
Backrs works with a network of high performing charter school and youth programs to identify, recruit, and onboard high potential proteges that meet the following criteria:
- High-school and post-secondary students
- High character, evidenced by academic track record and reference from at least one credible leader source at school (e.g., principal, guidance counselor)
- Evidence of financial need
- Completes rigorous on-boarding including articulation of specific goals and needs
- Parent or guardian agrees to participate and also signs Backrs pledge
